If you’re looking for a Solo palace restaurant with a memorable setting, Pracimasana sits in the Pracima Garden at Mangkunegaran Palace in Solo, also known as Surakarta, in Central Java, Indonesia. Its menu draws inspiration from traditional Javanese cooking, making it a lovely stop after a palace tour—especially if, like me, you enjoy getting to know a place through both its history and its food.

Q. Does a palace ticket include access to the restaurant?
Palace visits and restaurant bookings are handled separately. You’ll need to arrange your palace admission and restaurant reservation independently.

Q. Can I visit without a reservation?
I walked in on my own and was able to get a table, but it’s a popular spot, so booking ahead is the safer option. Check the dining requirements for your planned visit date, too.

Solo Palace Restaurant: A Royal Detour from Yogyakarta

A local friend of mine lives in Solo, not far from Yogyakarta. Both my friend and people I met in Yogyakarta had recommended visiting the palace several times.
That’s what brought me to Pura Mangkunegaran.

Solo has several royal heritage sites, and this palace of the Mangkunegaran family offers a glimpse into Javanese traditions and history.

I explored the palace with a guide, then headed to the royal restaurant I’d been told about. Just knowing there was somewhere to eat—and a café—within the palace grounds had already caught my attention.

You can reach Solo by train from Yogyakarta, the better-known cultural hub in Java, Indonesia. I was told that faster trains take around 30 minutes, while regular trains take about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Travel times vary by train service and departure station, so check the schedule when planning your trip.

Lunch at a Solo Palace Restaurant After the Tour

After the palace tour, I stepped into a restaurant that felt elegant without being overdone. With large trees and gardens all around, it was the kind of place that made me want to linger rather than squeeze in a quick sightseeing lunch.

The menu gives dishes rooted in palace traditions a contemporary presentation, which made choosing my meal part of the fun. An English menu is available, so ask the staff if you need one. Asking which dishes are most popular is a good place to start, too.

A Beef Dish to Try If You Love Jerky

On the staff’s recommendation, I ordered a beef dish and traditional tea. The tea arrived first and was very much to my taste. A neatly presented appetizer followed, leaving me curious about the main course.

What stood out about the beef was its jerky-like texture. It was a little chewy, but the smoky flavor and the way its savory taste developed with each bite won me over.

The rice came with coconut cream, which gave each bite a different character when paired with the beef. As someone who loves jerky, I especially enjoyed it. I could see why the staff had recommended it as a popular choice.

Can You Stop at the Palace Café Just for Dessert?

There’s also a café across from the restaurant. When I had a look around, the pretty desserts and canapé sets caught my eye.

If you’ve already eaten elsewhere, tea and a small dessert could be a lovely way to finish your palace visit. I only browsed the café menu this time, but I’d love to settle in and take my time on a future visit.

Check Reservations and Minimum Spending Before You Go

When I visited, the restaurant told me there was a minimum spend of IDR 150,000 per person. The current official information lists an à la carte minimum starting at IDR 200,000 per person, excluding tax and service charges.

The reservation information also specifies a deposit of IDR 100,000 per person, which is deducted from your final bill at the restaurant. The deposit is nonrefundable, so settle on your date and read the conditions carefully before booking. Policies may change.

Who I’d Recommend Pracimasana For

  • Travelers who want to go beyond Yogyakarta and add Solo to their itinerary

  • Anyone interested in Javanese palace culture and traditional food

  • Visitors who want a leisurely meal in a beautiful setting after touring the palace

  • Anyone curious to try a different style of beef dish alongside traditional tea

With a more famous destination nearby, Solo is an easy place to overlook. But after hearing the palace’s stories and sitting down to a meal connected to that setting, I was glad I’d made the trip.

If you have a spare day during your Yogyakarta trip, keep Mangkunegaran Palace and Pracimasana in Solo on your list.
