Tbilisi Solo Travel Guide, Georgia: Best Time to Visit, Sulfur Baths, Fabrika & Mtatsminda Park

This time, I put together a story about traveling in Georgia, one of the European countries I feel especially attached to.

Sometimes I imagine this:

if my nieces or nephews were coming to Georgia, Europe—and specifically planning a Tbilisi trip—where would I take them?

Travel changes completely when you’re with a child, compared with traveling solo.

You have to think about so much more: walking distance, hygiene, safety, meals, and time to rest.

So I took some time to organize my memories—and rewatch a few of my old travel YouTube videos—and mapped out a Tbilisi, Georgia route that works well for families too.

Chreli Abano bathhouse

This is the sulfur bath district famously loved by the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. You really can’t talk about Tbilisi without mentioning the sulfur baths.

Right in the middle of the city, there’s an entire sulfur bath area filled with bathhouses big and small.

If you’re planning a Tbilisi, Georgia trip, whether you’re traveling with a baby or as a family, I’d recommend Chreli Abano without hesitation.

It’s on the pricier side, but it’s clean and set up with private rooms, so it feels much more comfortable if you’re visiting with kids.

It’s extremely popular, though, so weekend reservations are almost impossible.

I’d recommend booking through the official website rather than by phone, and if possible, go on a weekday. If you’re visiting during winter in Georgia, the sulfur bath experience feels twice as satisfying.

Mtatsminda Park

To be honest, Georgia is still a little limited when it comes to child-friendly facilities, though it’s gradually improving. That’s exactly why Mtatsminda Park, the city’s hilltop amusement park, feels so welcome.

If you expect something on the level of a major Korean theme park, you may be disappointed,
but being able to look out over Tbilisi with your kids—and enjoy a relaxed meal on the terrace—makes it more than worthwhile.

Another place I’d recommend is a park near the Vake neighborhood, which has a high concentration of foreign residents.

Before I left at the end of 2021, the area had already been nicely improved, and I’ve heard it’s now even easier to get around with a stroller and much better for walks with babies.

There are also so many pretty cafés around there.
Definitely make time for Vake Park.

Fabrika
If I had to name just one place in Tbilisi, Georgia that feels both the safest and the most hip, I’d pick Fabrika without a second thought.

It’s the kind of place travelers instantly fall in love with.

During the day, it’s great for grabbing a meal with kids or taking a break, and in the evening, it turns into a stylish place for drinks.

For adults, it’s one of the best places to feel the current energy of Tbilisi, Georgia.

With cafés, restaurants, and small shops all gathered together, it’s also a great first stop early in your Tbilisi, Georgia itinerary.

Stamba Hotel

If I were traveling with my family and nieces or nephews, choosing the right hotel would matter even more. If I were booking for people I really care about, I’d recommend Stamba Hotel without overthinking it.

The location, the interior design, the breakfast, the sense of space—
whether you’re doing a solo Georgia trip or especially traveling as a family with kids, this hotel comes very close to being the right answer.

I worked in Georgia for two years with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO),
and because I often attended seminars with the Georgian government at Stamba Hotel, I had chances to spend time inside the property.

The interior of Stamba Hotel is genuinely beautiful.

If I get the chance, I’d love to stay here myself on my next trip to Georgia.

Oh, and Lolita Restaurant next door, run by the same company as Stamba Hotel, is also very well known.

If you make it here, I really recommend visiting both. It’s hard to go wrong with the menu, and the atmosphere feels stylish without being intimidating.

And if you ride the bus about two stops from here, you’ll find Veriko inside the outdoor dining space known as Wine Factory. That’s another place absolutely worth having a meal.

Georgia is truly famous for its wine 🙂

And of course, there’s Seoul Restaurant, the only Korean restaurant in Tbilisi and one that needs no introduction. For a family trip, it can be such a comfort.

If Korea feels cold, Georgia in Europe is cold too.

But honestly, that’s part of why it’s such a good time to go. Winter in Tbilisi is much quieter because there are fewer tourists. Prices often drop, and the colder it gets, the better the sulfur baths and Georgian wine feel.

From December to February, average temperatures are around 30°F to 45°F (-1°C to 7°C), similar to early winter in Korea or just a bit chillier.

If you pack a padded coat, scarf, and warm shoes, city travel is very manageable.

Georgia has so many other worthwhile places to visit too.

If you’re traveling solo, you might dream about more hardcore routes like Mestia or Ushguli, but with a child, those can be a bit much.

If you want something more comfortable,
a little safer,
and easier to enjoy at a relaxed pace in an English-friendly environment, I really hope you’ll consider a Tbilisi, Georgia trip.

This winter, I’d gently recommend Georgia, Europe—a place that feels even more charming because it still feels a little unfamiliar.
It’s wonderful both for solo travel in Georgia and for family travel.

Of course, it has something to offer in every season, so there’s really no bad time to go.
